Let us take a brief look at history. Sewing is a joining process in which sewing material parts are connected to one another with needle and thread according to special stitch pattern principles by means of mutual entanglement of one or more sewing threads. Depending on the seam type, however, there are, in addition to the process of sewing, also the tasks of fastening, decorating and neatening possible. It is one of the oldest cultural activities of mankind.

As far as we know from the more closely studied cultural history of man, i.e. the approximately past 12,000 to 15,000 years, mankind has always sewn in one form or another. First with needles of bones, thorns, fishbones, later with needles made of bronze and iron. The threads were first made from fur, then from leather, tendons, and more recently from textile materials. Only the Middle Ages brought textile products such as hemp and silk as sewing materials. Until the recent past, there was no alternative to hand sewing. The development of sewing into an industrial process was only achieved by the technical age, i.e. from the middle of the 19th century, as a result of the invention of the spinning machine.
